My writing process could probably use some work. While it may not be terrible or the worst, per say, it could definitely be improved. Maybe I can figure it out if I delve further into the process that I currently have. Regardless, here I go.
The first thing that I generally do when I start writing something is create some type of outline. Generally, I start an outline in the format of roman numerals and bullet points to formulate my thoughts clearly. This is not the only form I use, though. I also use the web format. The latter format is usually better, personally, for relating topics, while the former format works better for analytical or scientific essays for me.
Next, I work on my first draft. Usually, the introduction is saved for last. The reason for which I do this is that I can group together all of the topics of my paper and get the best introduction possible. Low key, I don’t have to be insanely creative until the end. My high school English teacher, Mrs. Sellman, gave me this idea, and I have used and benefited from it ever since. My first draft is typically my trash version.
After my first draft, I spend at least two or three hours revising and re-scripting this into a decent paper. Then, I take this to a peer willing to review my paper and take their criticisms. I, then, take two or three hours to really take in and analyze what revisions I care to put in my paper and which ones I will leave choose to leave out.
Now, finally, it comes to my final draft. I believe this may be a place for improvement. Nevertheless, the way I work on my final draft is by first pooling the corrections and criticisms of my previous drafts, and look how to best incorporate all of the revisions into my final paper. The reason why I believe that it could be improved upon is that my process is just kind of muddled. I have no cohesive strategy to tackle the final draft, but more closely akin to winging it, for lack of a better term.
My writing process can and will be improved through English 100. I have hope for that. The main thing I believe I can work on is definitely my final draft strategy; well, that, and my conclusions.
