When I think of a real-life hero, I think of Bernie Sanders. This man continues his fight every day way into his elderly years. This man is compassionate, caring and determined to help the working class and the less fortunate of this country. He should be retired, yet he continues to fight against the corruption of billionares.
The main reason why I believe that Bernie is a hero is that he wants to guarantee healthcare, housing and childcare to all Americans regardless of their income. He wants more climate activism to save the Earth for future generations. Not only does Bernie want to make these things happen, he fights for these things on a daily basis. Rallying against the top one percent is one of the main things Bernie is known for.
The main thing that I want to mention is his Medicare for all plan. Bernie is fighting for this because he believes that every single person has an intrinsic right to easily accessible and effective healthcare. He, and I, believe that the medical insurance companies and the pharmaceutical agencies are some of the most corrupt things in American society. He fights hard for this because there is something morally wrong that the top three wealthiest families in America own more wealth than the bottom sixty percent and people are still going bankrupt over medical expenses, if they even survive long enough to go into debt.
I recently watched a video where Bernie talked a man with Huntington’s Disease off the brink of suicide. This man was a former veteran with a $130,000 medical expense that he couldn’t pay for, and his insurance company dropped him. When the man told Bernie that he was contemplating killing himself, Bernie immediately told him that he wasn’t going to and that he would talk with him after the town hall. Thanks to Bernie’s efforts, the man ended up living and had his bills worked out. This is truly heroic.
While one may not agree with his policies, I believe it cannot be denied that this man is a hero. From talking a man off the edge of an abyss to fighting to get everyone healthcare, this man embodies the qualities of a hero and fights for the common person every single day.
